In response to Jon Sayer's May 1 article about uniting our campus with food. I have to agree. I do feel that south campus and north campus are split.
What I would like to see happen not just on south campus but on the entire campus is cheaper food. South campus is in dire need of food resources.
Like Jon mentioned, there is only the Atrium on south campus in which to sit, relax, study and or eat. While north campus has the Underground Coffeehouse, the Viking Commons, the library, the Viking Union building and Vendors Row.
Vendors Row provides good, cheap food; I would love to see a south campus Vendors Row. Instead of buying a sandwich and a drink at the Miller Market, which can cost you about $7, you might as well go to a dining hall and spend about $5 to $7 and eat anything you want.
While people complain about dining hall food, I'm sure there is something you can eat to get your money's worth. At least when I spend $4 to $5 at Q.Q. Li's stand I feel good about helping out her business and getting some filling food that I can always count on tasting great.
Eating at the markets on campus is just not worth the money, I would rather spend it elsewhere. This is why I feel another market in the new academics building is not the answer. It would be the same food, same outrageous prices. I don't care about local or organic food, I just want cheaper food, and if buying local is cheaper then let's do that! But let's get more nutritious and cheaper food and solve this problem.
