Dear Cassandra and Cejae,
To use animal parts, as Biodynamics does, as ingredients, is unethical. It is the pursuit of profit through barbarism and is repugnant and unethical. No manner of explanation can excuse us for the use of animal parts in the Biodynamic preparations:
500: Bovine intestines
502: Stagg's bladder
503: Bovine intestines
505: farm animal skull
506: lining of trhe abdominal cavity of a cow
(There are only 8 Biodynamic preparations.)
Biodynamics is very similar to Traditional Chinese Medicine. About 1,300 mammal species are killed or tortured in order to to provide "healing forces", to "enliven", to attract cosmic forces, to "potentize". Biodynamic use of deer and cow parts is part and parcel to the use of rhino horns, tiger bones, elephant, gorilla hands, bear bile, all of these animal parts are used to "enliven" and cure.
We ought to be careful if we think Biodynamics brings some sort of virtue to farming or a quick fix to what is wrong with farming. Farming requires patience, long term vision, persistent effort and continual learning. Farming should never involve the use of animal parts. We should boycott all Biodynamic farms until they are 100% free of using animal parts in their preparations. Please look at the Agricultural Lectures for the recipes used in the above preparations that call for animal parts. Educate yourself to the contents of the preparations before spending another moment praising biodynamics for being green or environmental. As a leader it is time to stop this unethical practice and to live up to the ethical standards that I know you stand for.
