Well done! Just a couple of minor points: Blanchard would not receive "federal" protection, but rather state protection as a Natural Resources Conservation Area (or NRCA). This gets a little confusing because the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail (a federal designation) runs through the heart of Blanchard Mountain. You are right that the NRCA would be managed to protect environmental and recreational values instead of for timber. The problem is that when the DNR goes to Blanchard Mountain, they see a nice big tree "farm." When the rest of us go there, we see a vibrant ecosystem, a spectacular landscape, and the most popular, year-round hiking destination in Northwest Washington. While the idea of an NRCA is a good one, the 1,600 acres that has been proposed is a pittance and can't possibly provide the level of protection this unique place deserves. (For example, the proposed NRCA excludes a large portion of the national scenic trail--go figure.)
