Thinking of getting out of the house to watch the game but don’t know where to go? Here are a few sports bars around Bellingham that may be able to appease your cravings for sports, as well as food.
Extremes Sports Grill & Pizzeria
Happy Hour is 3 - 6 p.m. daily. Specials include $2.50 Bud/Bud Light/Michelob Ultra pounders, $3.25 well drinks and $4 nachos, potato skins, or specialty fry baskets.
Extremes Sports Grill & Pizzeria opens at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The kitchen closes at 10 p.m. on the weekends. It is located at 4156 Meridian St.
Extremes boasts a total of 22 televisions, with a big screen in every room. The screens usually play a variety of sports, including baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, snowboarding and skiing. During football season, nearly every game across the league can be watched simultaneously in the restaurant.
The restaurant offers a hefty menu. Everything on the menu is homemade, much of it inspired by St. Louis barbecue. Owner Carl Schuessler said they smoke their own barbecue pork and turkey for their hot grinder sandwiches.
“I’m from St. Louis,” Schuessler said “where sports-themed restaurants are a family affair.”
They also pride themselves on their hand-tossed pizza that customers can watch bake in front of them in the stone oven at the front of the restaurant. Schuessler recommends the St. Louis pizza, complete with a cracker-thin crust.
Or, if you want to give your taste buds a kick, you can try one of their sweet and hot garlic pickles marinated with Carl’s aunt’s secret recipe. The pickles are included with the burgers and sandwiches.
The Copper Hog Gastropub
Happy Hour is 4 - 6 p.m. daily. Specials are priced at $4 and include pork or fish tacos, macaroni and cheese, ahi poke, chicken wings, corn dog lollipops and calamari.
The Copper Hog is open Monday through Friday noon to 1 a.m., Saturday and Sunday 9-1 a.m., and is located at 1327 North State St.
The interior of The Copper Hog definitely emulates the atmosphere of a pub. Soccer scarves and posters adorn the walls. A dinged-up wall, where darts players hit just a bit too low, also adds an authentic touch. The large windows to the right of the building offer a roadside view of State Street.
The Copper Hog could be described as the gathering place for Seattle Sounders FC fans in Bellingham. When you step through the front doors, you can usually expect a soccer game to be playing on at least one of the four televisions. Also, members of Emerald City Supporters, a Sounders supporters group, receive 20 percent off their bill during Sounders games.
The drink menu spans across multiple chalkboards and lists the brews flowing from The Copper Hog’s 18 rotating taps, but there are three mainstays. First is the Copper Hog Red, a dry-hop red ale. Next is the Hog Wash, what owner Aaron Matson called “an extra pale ale.” And finally, Guinness has earned its place in the rotation.
“It’s kind of our schtick,” Matson said of the rotation.
As far as food, Matson said the menu is always being upgraded. But there are a few items customers can always count on. These include fish and chips, the pulled pork sandwich and three signature burgers. One of them, The Elk Burger, consists of Northwest Roosevelt elk meat, red onion jam, greens, rosemary aioli and some shoestring fries on the side.
Slo Pitch Sports Grill & Casino

Slo Pitch Sports Grill and Casino is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Alcohol is served from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m.. It is located at 3720 Meridian St.
Located just off Meridian Street, the front doors of Slo Pitch take you right into the restaurant and bar area, with plenty of booths and tables to seat patrons comfortably. This includes a view of at least one of their 15 televisions.
“It’s a ‘Cheers’ type atmosphere,” General Manager Yvonne Campbell said. “It’s friendly, and everyone knows each other.”
The bar has more than 10 beers on tap and offers daily beer specials ranging from $1 Busch on Tuesdays to $3.25 for all microbrews on Sundays.
Slo Pitch offers a few specials for Monday night Mariners games. There are the $2 burgers and fans can enter to win two tickets for a train ride to a Mariners game.
