By not printing syllabuses, exams and other documents for class, the geology department plans to save 4,000 sheets of paper and $830 by the end of each quarter.
Budget cuts are in place for the quarter and the geology department has decided to take advantage of Blackboard and classroom technology in order to use less paper.
Not printing paper is the simplest way to save money, Scott Babcock, geology professor at Western said.
Babcock said the syllabuses are now only online rather than passed out in class. The exams are proctored in class by using PowerPoint or the document camera.
The rest of needed documents are found on Blackboard.
Students will be asked to use their own sheets of paper for exams, instead of printing multiple page tests per student, Babcock said.
